Our ancient vignaanam consists of two parts: 1. astronomy (khagool`am). 2. astrology (jyootisham).

ASTRONOMY

We need not doubt the astronomical calculations of our great ancient astronomers like Varaaha Mihira. They were able to calculate sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, eclipses, raasi, lagna timings very accurately. We can wonder, that they had done it very accurately, at a time when there were no satellites and telescopes. Hence we can accept our panchaamgams as correct.

Your birth star 'moola' astronomically is in the constellation 'vruschikam' (scorpion). It is a southern constellation. It is very conspicuous on the sky. You can see it with your naked eyes. The arrangement of the stars looks almost like a scorpion. The main stars in the constellation are jyesht`ha (called Antares) and moola.

Moola is at the tail. It is marked as Epsilon in the map. Greek letter E. You can see moola and scorpion with your naked eye.

Astronomically, there is nothing auspicious or inauspicious in being born when moola is in conjunction with moon. (Birth nakshatram means at the time of birth, moon is near the particular star. This nearness is only for appearance. Reality: Moon is just about 400,000 kms. approx. from us whereas stars are several light years aways. Hence, there is no question of realness. They appear to be.). Hence, there is no need to rejoice or worry.

ASTROLOGY
Most of the astrology has evolved to satisfy the whims and fancies of kings, rich merchants and landlords. It is like a building erected on sand. Why sand? Astrology thinks that Ravi (sun) is a planet, whereas sun is a star. It thinks that moon is a planet, whereas moon is a satellite of earth. Astrology ignores earth, neptune, and pluto. It gives unnecessary importance to shadows Raahu and Keetu. This blogpost is not sufficient to describe the drawbacks of our astrology. We can write 1000 pages. Predictions are fictitious, though astrologers may quote one book or other in support of their arguments.

Date and time of our birth nobody knows. Even the parents do not know. Babies live in the womb for about 10 months. The first day of the formation of the 'pimd`am' should be the date of birth. This fact, the astrologers do not bother.

Gentleman, enjoy your life. Please do not blame your birth star, even if something goes wrong. Things go wrong owing to dozens of reasons, some within our control, some outside our control. Environment is the greatest factor which influences our life. We can control a small part of it. We are too small to change the other part. This part, we cannot call fate. There is no God also to make it or change it.
