Government should ensure security for documents

Sathya Sai Baba was a public person. Not a private person.

A public person and his successors should not hesitate to accept public scrutiny. This is because, they expect public acclaim and public praise.

There is already an uproar over the security of valuables like cash, diamonds, gold and other precious objects of the Prashanti Nilayam, particularly the Yajurveda Mandiram. We can hope that the Police are closely watching the movement of things into and out of the Prashanti Nilayam and the precious objects will be protected from pillage.

DOCUMENTS
Hard copy Documents, computer hard-disks, usb sticks and other storage media too have great value. The Government should , therefore, take steps to take their possession, scan them/digitalise them, and place them on the Internet for public scrutiny.

This will help hagiographers to write selective praises of Baba. It will also help unbiased researchers to go into the mysterious miracles of Baba. The researchers can also compare the preachings of Baba with his practices. After all, it is the practice which should have precedence over preachings.

Accumulation of wealth and love do not, and cannot normally coexist and cohabitate. It has come out that Baba was wearing diamond-studded footwear and that the interior walls of his 'yajurveda mandir' were covered with gold. This is apart from his gold(en) temple car. His pet word 'bamgaru' literally means 'gold'. Which gold Baba was referring to, when he addressed some followers of his so affectionately? Was he alluding to the gold and diamonds, with a secret wink of his eye?

Leaving aside the mundane metal of gold and stones, -- also the letters, emails, cables, telexes and other communications received by Baba and his institutions need scrutiny. I believe that Baba has not written many letters (unlike Vivekananda who wrote numerous letters - may be a result of underdeveloped telecommunications of his days). Baba's speeches are available abundantly on the net, but one gets an impression, that they have been considerably and overly doctored and edited.

Ex tempore discourses speak out without inhibitions whereas edited speeches are made out to market orders. Hence, we cannot depend much on published speeches of Baba.

Anyway whatever is available unedited, on the premises of Prashanti Nilayam, if published, can go a long way , in enabling the People of India to assess to what extent Baba was fake and to what extent genuine.

Securing the unedited communications should be done by the Government immediately before some Trust Member allows their deletion/editing or before some employee accidentally or deliberately destroys or meddles with the records.

The State Government of Andhra Pradesh is too timid and too busy with Kadapa elections to undertake this task. The Government of India is also busy with its 2g Spectrum Scam and the report of the PAC. The 2g Scam should enjoy greater priority. Hence, public will end up only with edited publications at the mercy of the Trust and its employees.
