We can find some scurrilous writings about Sathya Sai Baba, on the Net.
Many of them have been written by ex devotees of Baba.
E.g. Mr. Robert Priddy claimed that he knew Baba for 17 - 26 years. This gentleman was said to be a Researcher/Lecturer of Philosophy. May be true.
It is not clear - how many years he physically stayed at Prashanti Nilayam. Not clear with what frequency he visited Puttaparti.
Important questions which arise here are:
*Why should it take 17-26 years to gauge that a Baba is not virtuous? We can understand, if an uneducated villager who has not seen the world gets misled. How can a College Teacher get misled for such a long time? That too a person engaged in teaching philosophy?
*Why should it take 17-26 years for Baba and his Team to realise that Priddy was an undesirable person? It is said that Prashanti Nilayam has an extremely efficient information network.
Around 1990. One Retired C.T.O. friend of mine wanted me to visit Prashanti Nilayam and pray Baba. The friend said that I would undergo a great change once I see him. I too developed some curiosity to visit Puttaparti. My friend knew that I was an atheist and rationalist. I told him that I would visit Parti to explore truth.
My friend laughed and said: "Baba knows everything. The moment you board your bus/train to Parti, he knows. The moment you land in Prashanti Nilayam he knows. He knows that you are a non-believer. He will recognise and beckon you, even if you sit among a crowd of ten thousand persons. Such is his capability. Hence do not delay visiting Puttaparti."
I could not visit Puttaparti, fortunately or unfortunately, as I had to attend some urgent office duties. My friend said that If Baba wills, all your office assignments would be cleared and he would see that you lay prostrate in his presence. My friend died in course of time, without showing me Baba. Nor could the divine Baba draw me towards him. He died now. I too shall die someday. What is real on this Earth? Ans: Death.
The enigma of Baba's biography thus remains: Why should Baba encourage/entertain Robert Priddy for 17-26 years, if he was such an unworthy disciple?
Relationships spread over a number of years continue only if there are some perceived/real mutual benefits and synergy. Otherwise they disappear in a short period. How did the contacts between Baba and Robert Priddy last for 17-26 years? How did Priddy write a book praising Baba? What made him to change his mind later? It can not just be a question of spine ache of Mr. Robert Priddy.
We shall see how, hagiographers of Baba are going to treat the affairs of ex-devotees of Baba.
